Shiatsu

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a traditional style of Japanese bodywork. Its is based on the same principles as Chinese medicine and involves stretching, joint rotations and manipulation, application of bodyweight, gentle holding and acu-point stimulation.

Shiatsu aims to improve the flow of energy called Qi (life force energy) within a series of channels called meridians. For many different reasons Qi can become blocked and produce symptoms of poor health on a physicals and emotional level. These symptoms can gradually improve as the quality and flow of Qi starts to change.

Shiatsu is deeply relaxing for both body and mind. It helps to establish a calmer nervous system which allows the bodies own natural healing mechanisms to start working.

Common conditions which have been helped by shiatsu:

Back pain

Headaches, migraines

Whiplash injuries and neck stiffness

Joint pain and reduced mobility

Menstrual problems

Asthmatic symptoms

Digestive problems

Sports injuries

Stress, tiredness and depression

The session usually takes place on a padded futon at floor level and the client stays fully clothed throughout the treatment.
