Bio-Dynamic therapy

Life energy is the force that moves us and brings us to life at all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. When this energy flows through the body it gives a sense of well-being and harmony. A sense of who we are is lodged in the body. We live and experience life through our body.

In good health, mind and body function together. Breathing, mood, speech and a sense of well-being is harmonius. Most of us rarely know what it is like to be really well, alive, enjoying life to the full.

we tend to try and control or stop our feelings when we are under stress or in conflict with our inner thoughts. This often means we hold our breath or tighten muscles. We then become depressed, tired or anxious, in effect our body reflects our mental state.

Bio-dynamic therapy seeks to restore the lost or diminished ability to self regulate. It encourages the person to expand by using special massage and movement techniques. It is an holistic therapy and is aimed at the individual needs.

If it appears there are more deep-rooted issues, or you would like to make a journey of self discovery then psychotherapy is more likely to be of benefit. This will include sessions of massage, talking through the issues and if appropriate, movement techniques to assist in getting you more in touch with your body and emotions.

Birth Preparation Course for Couples

This is a one day workshop, which comes highly recommended as an addition to the weekly Active Birth classes. The course is also excellent as a one off if you are unable to do the weekly classes or just need a refresher course. The day is designed for couples and/or birth partners to be there, but if it doesn't work for you it is always fine to come on your own.

The main aim of this workshop is to ensure that both you and your partner have the knowledge and tools required for you to have the best chance of an empowered birth experience.

The day focuses on normal physiological birth and clearly describes the advantages of an Active Birth.

The course includes a lot of practical work on birth positions, breathing and chanting as a couple as well as massage. Partners find it very helpful in developing a better understanding of the birth process and greater confidence to be at the birth.

The material includes:

Anatomy & physiology of birth - how is the body designed and what to expect of a normal labour

Optimal fetal positioning - how to get the baby into a good position before labour and how to encourage them to move if they choose an unfavourable one

Creating the birth environment - how to create the best conditions for a natural birth to unfold

Coping with pain - practicing a variety of techniques

Writing your birth plan - the guideline for what you want and for what you need from people, who are present during your labour

The role of the birth partner - clarifying what women in labour need from their birth partners

Dealing with complications - sometimes labour turns out to be different than what you had hoped for. What to do and how to stay empowered. What to do to try and get back on track for a natural birth

Bonding - welcoming the new baby. How to create the best conditions for bonding to happen naturally

Early parenting - the first 6 weeks after the birth of your baby. What to expect and how to make the transition into parenthood as smooth as possible.

Core Process Psychotherapy

CORE PROCESS PSYCHOTHERAPY

With Andy Gibb

"Well-being is not just about physical and mental stability, but is seen at a core level to be a truly expansive state of awareness, compassion, joy and peace."

Karuna Institute

Core Process Psychotherapy works with the body, mind and spirit and draws from modern Western psychotherapeutic approaches combined with Buddhist philosophy - principally the teachings on compassion, wisdom and unconditional acceptance. Here, our core relates to the unconditioned self and is seen to be a place of inherent health and our process is the way we are in the moment, how we react and respond to our world from both our conditioned and unconditioned aspects. In Core Process work, a depth awareness of what is happening in the present moment is used to explore our inner process. This awareness encompasses our energies, sensations, feelings, mental processes and their expressions in the body.

In life we can fall into habitual ways of seeing, thinking and doing, losing touch with what is deepest in ourselves and the full extent of our potential as human beings. Without awareness of this process these habits can then become our lives. Contact with the deepest parts of ourselves affords us perhaps our greatest opportunities for creativity, learning and growing, facilitating greater and more conscious choice in our everyday lives.

Although most clients enter into a therapeutic relationship for reasons of difficulty, for some the motivation is simply the desire to grow in awareness, to become more true to oneself, to reawaken more spontaneity and vitality. As awareness needs to be cultivated, generally the intention when engaging in psychotherapy is to work medium to long term.

Confidentiality and professional standards are of the utmost importance and form an essential part of psychotherapy. All sessions are conducted in accordance with the ethical standards of The Karuna Institute and UKCP.

My Intention is to respect your individuality, support you in finding your own way of working and to meet your uniqueness without judgement. As your therapist it is my role to be a reflector and facilitator of awareness, a companion and guide.

Craniosacral Therapy

All living organisms exhibit a subtle rhythmic motion. This can be felt by sensitive hands. While physical therapies aim to maintain and restore gross movement in the body, CST pays attention to the force which generates subtle motion. When this subtle motion, which we call PRIMARY RESPIRATION is reduced health starts to break down. This can happen in a single area of the body following on from an injury or through the system as a whole as a result of disease, emotional stress, poor nutrition or exhaustion. To improve health CST aims to restore PRIMARY RESPIRATION in the whole body to an optimal level.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

This is a relatively new technique which has its roots in Eastern medicine and acupuncture. It involves tapping a selected sequence of acupoints whilst using verbal statements which relate to the problem being addressed. Whilst being a gentle technique, EFT can often provide quite rapid relief from emotional problems, and can also be learned for self-help use. It is effective for a wide range of issues including fears, phobias, addictions, cravings, grief, traumatic memories and also for some stress-related physical problems. In addition to individual sessions, introductory courses and workshops in EFT are also available.

This treatment is currently unavailable at the centre.

Healing and Deep Memory Process

Sometimes healing means journeying into our deep soul memories to heal patterns that have been held through many lifetimes. This is not hypnosis. The body remembers and also has an extraordinary capacity to heal itself, to restore to joy and wholeness. It is recommended that those who wish to have a 2 hour deep memory process session that they first sample a 1 hour healing session so that you know how the process works. For some people a 1 hour session may be enough.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicines act to nourish and sustain our various body systems, just as grains and vegetables do in our diet. Remedies are used to restore weakened tissues and organs, encouraging the body to heal itself. Plants are potent medicines, but unlike pharmaceutical drugs, which contain isolated chemicals (often from plants) herbal medicine uses extracts from parts of the whole plant, containing hundreds of constituents in balance with each other. This means that the active components are moderated, causing fewer side effects. Modern herbal practitioners are able to combine a sound understanding of medical science and of the chemical composition of plants with time honoured traditional experience and knowledge of herbal medicines. It can be used to treat a similar range of health problems to those you would consult your GP about.

Homoeopathic Medicine

HOMOEOPATHY

Homoeopathy is a simple, safe and effective medical art based upon principles that are easy to understand.

Disease is perceived to be a dynamic disturbance of the whole person, a disturbance that is expressed individually. The task for the homoeopath is to discover what is individual in each case of disease and then to select the medicine that induces the most similar disease state in tests on healthy people, according to the principle that ‘like cures like’. This medicine is given singly and in the smallest dose necessary to restore health. This is good science.

The homoeopathic consultation is an opportunity for you to explore your health situation from the inside. Most people find it to be a positive and enlightening experience and 75-80% of our patients have reported ‘significant improvements’ in their health.

Almost any problem that you would take to a GP could benefit from a homoeopathic approach.

Feel free to call us and find out what we can do to help.

Hopi Ear Candles

Hopi Ear Candles

Hopi Ear Candles, or Thermo-Auricular Therapy as it is also known, is a gentle and relaxing treatment of the ears, which is suitable for people of all ages – adults and children. It is used to treat a variety of conditions of the ears, nose, throat and head, and to relieve stress.

Application is simple and is carried out in a relaxed, warm atmosphere, generally on a futon (or mat) at floor level. To satisfy the principle of balance, both ears need to be treated, one after the other, at each treatment. Treatment of the ears is followed by a 10-15 minute ear, head, neck and shoulder shiatsu massage, with stimulation of specific acupressure points where and when appropriate. This helps to release stress and tension, and creates a potent sense of wellbeing, balance and calm.

All treatments are given using exclusively BIOSUN ear candles, which are the only ear candles to carry the prestigious CE mark for medical devices in Europe (93/42/EEC Class IIa). They are the best quality and safest ear candles on the market, containing only the highest quality natural, organic ingredients.

You remain conscious, comfortable and in control throughout. Hypnotherapy is widely recognised as being effective for smoking cessation, weight adjustment, phobias, insomnia and anxieties of all kinds; it is also very helpful for a wider range of issues including self-confidence, stress-related physical illness and for skills development.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu

with Flower Essences

Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing therapy, literally meaning ‘finger pressure’, and is effective in treating a wide range of physical, mental and emotional conditions, as well as maintaining balance, health and harmony within the body. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing and energising therapy, and is a powerful tool for clearing the “blockages” that can leave us feeling frustrated and limited by our lives. Helping to release these imbalances can lead to profound and powerful changes in our physical and mental state.

Treatment is focused along the body’s energy lines or channels called meridians, regulating the flow of energy around the body to bring about balance. Depending on the client’s constitution and general energy levels, a variety of techniques may be used. These will include a combination of gentle holding, palm and finger pressure to the meridians and, when appropriate, more dynamic techniques - rotations, stretches and gentle postural realignment.

A shiatsu treatment takes place on a padded mat or futon at floor level, in a warm and relaxing environment. The client remains fully clothed, and it is suggested that a loose top and trousers, preferably cotton, be worn.

Where appropriate to a client’s situation, Debbie also offers Flower and Gem Essences to support and complement her shiatsu treatments. Flower and Gem Essences provide a powerful yet gentle tool to help the process of emotional release or change. They can provide an effective method of balancing and harmonising the emotions, and help to enhance and intensify the positive healing process already started by the Shiatsu treatment.

The combination makes it a unique form of massage. As an Eastern approach to massage it focuses on sen lines (like meridians) on the body and works to balance both the structure and intrinsic energy of the body. As with other natural health practises it is holistic in approach and supports the natural healing capacity of body and mind. It can take between 1 - 2 hours. Traditionally it is 2 hours plus though shorter treatments are possible and effective.

Toyohari Acupuncture

Toyohari is a theoretically simple but technically sophisticated complete system of acupuncture. It is quite different from most other forms of acupuncture in that it uses a mroe delicate treatment method, placing great emphasis on the use of pulse diagnosis and palpation skills. Anyone can have Toyohari treatment for any complaint. It is classed as a root treatment and so it deals with the cause which then takes care of the effect. A Toyohari treatment is so subtle that it is a surprise how effective it can be. It is so gentle that even children like it.

Traditional Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing practised in China and other Eastern Countries for thousands of years. It will benefit a person's entire health and well being by regarding the physical body as intricately linked to emotional, mental and spiritual functioning. Inserting fine needles into the energy channels of the body enables the acupuncturist to stimulate the body's own healing response and restore natural balance. Acupuncture not only serves as a successful treatment method but also as an excellent preventative medicine.
