Alexander Technique
You learn the Alexander Technique through one to one lessons with a qualified teacher who will address your individual needs. Learning the technique involves changing long standing habits and relies on your active participation. The Technique involves no specific exercises, requires no special equipment and can be practised wherever your are. It is suitable for people of all ages and levels of physical fitness. The number of lessons you take can be discussed with your teacher and depends on your particular goals and needs. It will help you to identify and prevent the harmful postural habits that may be the cause of stress and pain. You will learn to release tension and rediscover balance of mind and body.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy uses the therapeutic properties of plants to help relieve the body of toxins causing disharmony and ill health. It can be a relaxing, uplifting or stimulating experience (or all three) – depending on your own personal requirements. Aromatherapy can be used to enhance the body’s natural defences, to release tensions or simply as an invigorating indulgence. Individuals are assessed taking into account lifestyle, general health and any specific preconditions. A unique blend of oils is then mixed especially for you to gently remove the build up of toxins and regain the body’s natural balance and equilibrium.

Birth Preparation Course for Couples
This is a one day workshop, which comes highly recommended as an addition to the weekly Active Birth classes. The course is also excellent as a one off if you are unable to do the weekly classes or just need a refresher course. The day is designed for couples and/or birth partners to be there, but if it doesn't work for you it is always fine to come on your own.
The main aim of this workshop is to ensure that both you and your partner have the knowledge and tools required for you to have the best chance of an empowered birth experience.
The day focuses on normal physiological birth and clearly describes the advantages of an Active Birth.
The course includes a lot of practical work on birth positions, breathing and chanting as a couple as well as massage. Partners find it very helpful in developing a better understanding of the birth process and greater confidence to be at the birth.
The material includes:
Anatomy & physiology of birth - how is the body designed and what to expect of a normal labour
Optimal fetal positioning - how to get the baby into a good position before labour and how to encourage them to move if they choose an unfavourable one
Creating the birth environment - how to create the best conditions for a natural birth to unfold
Coping with pain - practicing a variety of techniques
Writing your birth plan - the guideline for what you want and for what you need from people, who are present during your labour

Core Process Psychotherapy
CORE PROCESS PSYCHOTHERAPY
With Andy Gibb
"Well-being is not just about physical and mental stability, but is seen at a core level to be a truly expansive state of awareness, compassion, joy and peace." Karuna Institute
Core Process Psychotherapy works with the body, mind and spirit and draws from modern Western psychotherapeutic approaches combined with Buddhist philosophy - principally the teachings on compassion, wisdom and unconditional acceptance. Here, our core relates to the unconditioned self and is seen to be a place of inherent health and our process is the way we are in the moment, how we react and respond to our world from both our conditioned and unconditioned aspects. In Core Process work, a depth awareness of what is happening in the present moment is used to explore our inner process. This awareness encompasses our energies, sensations, feelings, mental processes and their expressions in the body.
In life we can fall into habitual ways of seeing, thinking and doing, losing touch with what is deepest in ourselves and the full extent of our potential as human beings. Without awareness of this process these habits can then become our lives. Contact with the deepest parts of ourselves affords us perhaps our greatest opportunities for creativity, learning and growing, facilitating greater and more conscious choice in our everyday lives.
Although most clients enter into a therapeutic relationship for reasons of difficulty, for some the motivation is simply the desire to grow in awareness, to become more true to oneself, to reawaken more spontaneity and vitality. As awareness needs to be cultivated, generally the intention when engaging in psychotherapy is to work medium to long term.
Confidentiality and professional standards are of the utmost importance and form an essential part of psychotherapy. All sessions are conducted in accordance with the ethical standards of The Karuna Institute and UKCP.
My Intention is to respect your individuality, support you in finding your own way of working and to meet your uniqueness without judgement. As your therapist it is my role to be a reflector and facilitator of awareness, a companion and guide.
Counselling/Psychotherapy
Supportive, creative, in-depth, short or long term counselling to facilitate self discovery, self expression and improve confidence and self esteem. Bereavement or loss, relationship difficulties, stress, anxiety and depression can all be helped with counselling.

Craniosacral Therapy
All living organisms exhibit a subtle rhythmic motion. This can be felt by sensitive hands. While physical therapies aim to maintain and restore gross movement in the body, CST pays attention to the force which generates subtle motion. When this subtle motion, which we call PRIMARY RESPIRATION is reduced health starts to break down. This can happen in a single area of the body following on from an injury or through the system as a whole as a result of disease, emotional stress, poor nutrition or exhaustion. To improve health CST aims to restore PRIMARY RESPIRATION in the whole body to an optimal level.

Creative Kinesiology
Muscle testing is at the core of Kinesiology. This is a gentle non-invasive way of getting a direct feed-back (bio-feedback) from the body, mind and energy systems.
Creative Kinesiology (CK) offers help to people wanting to explore the meaning behind their symptoms, the root cause of a problem, and is able to facilitate energetic healing at all levels. When we discover the cause of our symtoms, where they are rooted in the system and why they have originated we have the pieces of the jigsaw we need for healing to take place.
The CK approach is one of working deeply with energy, helping people to overcome deep seated emotional, physical and energetic patterns which can manifest as aches and pains, illness, frustration with life, learning difficulties, depression, lack of confidence, low energy states and lack of fulfilment or purpose.
Life Tracking
LifeTracking offers a fresh, dynamic approach to personal growth through the use of energy work and understanding. It is designed to help people find their way forward – their track in life. It is based on Creative Kinesiology, a way of working that helps us to reveal the story behind whatever it is that is holding us back. It uses a range of powerful tools based on the art of energy medicine from many sources, ancient and modern. When symptoms, difficulties or dissatisfactions get in the way these tools can be used to identify them and release the hold they have, leaving the path ahead clear. Both group and individual sessions are available. Following your life path, your life track means that your energy levels are high, you feel good about yourself, love to be alive and generally have a happy glow about you. Both group workshops (see training) and individual sessions are available.

Crystal Treatments
The power and beauty of crystals and other stones have long been recognised as a complementary means of enhancing our well being through their power to heal, protect, sooth, calm, strengthen and uplift. These benefits put us in a better position to manage our lives and cope in difficult times. This ancient therapy goes back to Atlanta times; the Atlantians had large healing temples made from crystals and gemstones, for the use of people in need of healing. The Egyptians also had an advanced system of healing using gemstones. Ayurvedic medicine which originated in India also used gemstones.
We have come a long way in our modern times with how we are beginning to realise the potential of crystals to heighten the spiritual, emotional and physical being, and we now use crystals effectively in our every day lives sometimes without realising.
We know every mineral, plant, animal, or human has its own form of vibration matter, crystals are not static and immovable but a mass of moving particles of atoms and molecules emitting their own radiations of light, heat and colours. Scientists discovered that when a crystal lattice forms, the colour, density and shape will depend on the environment of the earth where it formed; making each crystal individual and that it is rarely perfect.
There can be gaps in the structure, additional atoms of a different size that enters the lattice form which gives the crystal an extra reservoir of electrons. Some of these electrons don’t gel between the atoms and therefore lay dormant until energy (light, electrical current, heat or friction) is put through the crystal; the electrons then become active in flowing through the lattice structure. This means that crystals can change from one form of energy to another and act as transducers. Hence crystals are used in Quartz watches; attract solar rays, communication systems and computer silicon chips, even the chips on some bank cards.
Crystals have proven how they work with energy and as the human body has also proven its own individual energy field (the Aura) and energy points (Chakras) within it (or simply when we know someone has a calming, caring, aggressive, uncomfortable or prickly presence; this is their energy).
By introducing a crystal to the energy in our body it activates the vibration energy of the crystal, the therapist then uses a variety of techniques to work with the crystal energy which can assess any weakness or over-activity in our energy system and revitalise/ adjust the area of concern and balance the body holistically, shifting stagnant energy or energy blocks.
Much research on crystal treatments has identified that different crystals resonate differently to different areas and on different levels in our energy system to benefit us. Depending on where they are placed they are able to work on different levels; Chakras, subtle bodies (Aura), Meridians and physical organs all have a different energy frequency.
Crystal therapists are able utilise the energies effectively and appropriately to enhance wellbeing and healing. Instinctually from a child I started to work with crystals for myself, friends and family. I qualified as a Crystal Therapist with a Diploma MANAF (Mantic Arts of the New Age Foundation) in 2002 due to requests for Crystal treatments so thought it best to become qualified and insured!
Lying down (sitting is also possible) in a warm comfortable position, while listening to relaxing music. You can choose any combination to meet your needs; Chakra balancing, energising, enhance healing on any level, protection, soothing/nurturing, self-awareness, calming, strengthening, releasing and uplifting or I can work on what the crystals respond to as part of the assessment, I will place the crystals around and on you depending on what your frequencies need and I will fed back to you afterwards.
How do Gem Essences work? A Gem Essence provides a balanced pattern of specific energy from the crystal(s) which operates in the same way as a subliminal tape; it plays the same pattern of vibrations over and over again. This sets up a sympathetic rhythm in the etheric, which picks up the positive blue-print which the physical ultimately copies.
Using a method that enhances the vibration rhythms, I am able to create a pure form of the positive Blue Print and preserve it.
Used in relation to an area of ourselves that is in need of support, is can: shift energy around to where it needs to be; shift the energy completely as necessary; help us ‘let go’; and aid healing on all levels.
While taking herbal remedies affects the etheric and the physical body, Gem Essences also affect the emotional, mental and spiritual subtle bodies. * Essences are only available to my clients following a Crystal therapy treatment including an assessment of need.
Building clearing: Frequencies are energies, energy can become stuck in building as well as our bodies- remember when you have entered a room after an argument and you could sense it, feel it or a building (or just a room of a building) that makes you feel uncomfortable?
This is energy, despite all other things it may be called, it is energy and I am able to clear this negative energy from rooms, buildings, etc.

Healing and Deep Memory Process
Sometimes healing means journeying into our deep soul memories to heal patterns that have been held through many lifetimes. This is not hypnosis. The body remembers and also has an extraordinary capacity to heal itself, to restore to joy and wholeness. It is recommended that those who wish to have a 2 hour deep memory process session that they first sample a 1 hour healing session so that you know how the process works. For some people a 1 hour session may be enough.

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicines act to nourish and sustain our various body systems, just as grains and vegetables do in our diet. Remedies are used to restore weakened tissues and organs, encouraging the body to heal itself. Plants are potent medicines, but unlike pharmaceutical drugs, which contain isolated chemicals (often from plants) herbal medicine uses extracts from parts of the whole plant, containing hundreds of constituents in balance with each other. This means that the active components are moderated, causing fewer side effects. Modern herbal practitioners are able to combine a sound understanding of medical science and of the chemical composition of plants with time honoured traditional experience and knowledge of herbal medicines. It can be used to treat a similar range of health problems to those you would consult your GP about.

A unique combination of techniques will be designed specifically for you by the therapist targeted to your needs.
Homoeopathic Medicine
HOMOEOPATHY
Homoeopathy is a simple, safe and effective medical art based upon principles that are easy to understand.
Disease is perceived to be a dynamic disturbance of the whole person, a disturbance that is expressed individually. The task for the homoeopath is to discover what is individual in each case of disease and then to select the medicine that induces the most similar disease state in tests on healthy people, according to the principle that ‘like cures like’. This medicine is given singly and in the smallest dose necessary to restore health. This is good science.
The homoeopathic consultation is an opportunity for you to explore your health situation from the inside. Most people find it to be a positive and enlightening experience and 75-80% of our patients have reported ‘significant improvements’ in their health.
Almost any problem that you would take to a GP could benefit from a homoeopathic approach.

You remain conscious, comfortable and in control throughout. Hypnotherapy is widely recognised as being effective for smoking cessation, weight adjustment, phobias, insomnia and anxieties of all kinds; it is also very helpful for a wider range of issues including self-confidence, stress-related physical illness and for skills development.

Ka Huna Massage
Ka Huna Massage
Ka Huna massage is a deeply healing and beautiful form of massage to receive and is especially good for reducing stress and increasing the subtle energy know as ki, chi, or lifeforce. In Hawaiian this is termed mana.
When this energy flows freely and we are in balance we are happy, confident, vibrant and healthy. However when it is low or obstructed we can feel tight, tired or just lacking a certain joie de vivre.
The Ka Huna practitioner uses long flowing, rhythmical movements to facilitate deep relaxation of the mind and body performed to align, balance and harmonise the whole being.
On the Physical level Ka Huna moves large volumes of blood which brings fresh oxygen and nutrients to every cell and:
Relieves muscle tension especially back, neck and shoulders
Stimulates the lymphatic, circulatory and nervous systems
Cleanses toxins and wastes from every cell producing a feeling of improved health and vitality
Helps fasten recovery time from illness
On the Mental and Emotional levels Ka Huna:
Creates a healthy emotional balance for all kinds of traumas
Releases unhelpful patterns held in the subconscious mind
Strengthens relationships
Creates peace
The recipient leaves feeling light, peaceful and wonderfully relaxed.

Kinesiology
What is kinesiology?
In December, we have had the experience of taking out the Christmas tree lights and plugging them in only to find out that they didn’t work. Usually, after some further examination, one or two bulbs or connections are found to be broken or loose. Once these have been fixed, all the lights will function normally.
Kinesiology is like the above story where the lights are replaced by a human body. Sometimes when some of our ‘light bulbs’ are ‘out’ we are out of balance and we do not function at our best or we feel unwell. Kinesiology can work with the body to locate these imbalances and, through a wide range of gentle yet powerful treatments, restore the body’s balance to create and sustain health, well-being and more effective functioning.
Kinesiology is a holistic system of natural healthcare which uses gentle muscle testing to identify imbalances in the person’s body. It looks beyond your symptoms to identify the root cause of your ailments. It does this by locating:-
• where an imbalance lies;
• what type of imbalance it is; structural, chemical or emotional
• how it affects the body as a whole;
• and how best to correct the imbalance and restore the body back to full health
Significant improvements can appear after one visit with ongoing improvements after subsequent sessions.
Kinesiology can
• increase energy and vitality
• prevent illness
• improve posture
• relieve physical pain and tension
• release and manage emotions and stress
• enhance brain function and co-ordination
• discover individual nutritional needs and food sensitivities
• remove fears, phobias and emotional blocks

NLP
NLP:
So what is NLP?
The term Neuro Linguistic Programming refers to the processes we use unconsciously (also known as sub consciously) to produce behaviour, and therefore results.
Neuro:
Refers to the nervous system. Our experience of the world enters our brain via our nervous system and 5 senses. NLP is concerned with how we process this sensory experience and translate it into conscious and unconscious thought.
Linguistic:
Refers to the way we use language to give meaning to experience. We communicate our unconscious and conscious thoughts both verbally and non verbally.
Programming:
Indicates the ways in which we consistently think and behave. Just like a computer each of us runs specific programmes to produce our behaviour. NLP can reveal the programmes we run and the results they produce. This then gives us the means to change our own and other people’s programmes to produce the results we want.
(With thanks to Carolyn Boyes for the definitions used)
NLP, (Neuro Linguistic programming) Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis are fast and extremely effective methods in dealing with a whole range of personal life issues. These techniques can make powerful and lasting changes in even one session because they work directly with your unconscious mind.
We also provide a unique blend of NLP with Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT works on unblocking the meridian/energy pathways in the body to resolve emotional and physical problems. This is an extremely fast and effective treatment enabling you to 'tap' away your issues in just minutes.
We have helped clients overcome anxieties/panic attacks, fears (including fear of public speaking), phobias, low confidence, self-worth issues, depression, feelings of rejection, limiting beliefs and release from the effects of past traumatic events.
Sometimes you don't really know what is wrong- you just feel unhappy, disillusioned, stressed or 'stuck' in a negative cycle. The methods we use can help identify and deal with what the real issue is for you, and help you move forward in life feeling positive and energised.

Nutritional Therapy
NUTRITIONAL THERAPY
Nutritional Therapy explores the therapeutic benefits that can be gained from the interaction of nutrients from food and supplements with the cells, organs and systems of the body. The aim of the nutritional therapist is to help an individual to achieve the correct balance of nutrients in order to support the body’s systems and help promote healing. The approach is tailored to the individual and recognition is given to the potential negative effects of factors other than diet; including inefficient nutrient absorption and toxin elimination, medical history, lifestyle, and physical and emotional stressors.
Many conditions can respond well to nutritional therapy, including: anxiety and stress-related problems, joint aches and pains, low energy, chronic fatigue/ME, digestive complaints, hormonal imbalances, poor immune status, and weight issues. Nutritional therapy can also be useful for anyone who feels their diet may be contributing to health issues but aren’t quite sure what changes to make.

Past Life Regression Future Life Progression
Past Life Regression & Future Life Progression
A session of past life regression or future life progression can be life changing. So often we struggle through life making the same mistakes over and over. We read the books, go to the workshop, do the meditations but somehow never seem to move forward. A past life session can clear old patterns, explain why we have certain people and situations in our lives. It can reveal talents and abilities. Most of all we can leave the past behind us and clear the way for a better life.
A future life progression session is a life changing and powerful insight into your own future. You can discover who you will be with, where you will be living, how your career is going. You can look at alternate futures and even go forward into your next lifetime and bring back the wonderful energy from the future you.
Sessions are available in person at Exeter Natural Health Centre. See www.juliebladon.com for more information.

Reflexology
Reflexology
Reflexology is an intense treatment of the feet originating from China and Egypt to help detoxify the body and relax the mind. It is based on the principle that the foot, divided in reflex zones, is a mirror image of the body. By applying pressure to the 10 energy lines that run through our body to our feet, blockages in corresponding glands, organs and other parts of the body can be reduced or eliminated. This ancient therapy is believed to promote the body's own healing powers. Reflexology is more than a foot massage; it's a natural healing therapy which is highly effective in dealing with many complaints.

Reflexology in Pregnancy and Labour
Pregnancy
Maternity Reflexology is a gentle, non invasive treatment that can help with many of the common ailments of pregnancy. It is a deeply relaxing therapy that can help to calm anxieties and stresses and help you to focus on your baby and the changes that are taking place in your body. This deep relaxation can also help to provide the ideal conditions for the production of Oxytocin which is a vital component during labour.
In her book, The Gentle Birth Method, Dr Gowri Motha describes Reflexology as one of the most powerful tools in her programme and lists some of the benefits that Reflexology treatments can have throughout pregnancy:
• Reducing and normalising high blood pressure
• Normalizing low blood pressure
• Elimination of oedema and reduced swelling in feet and ankles
• Prevention of heartburn
• Improved sleep quality
• Clearing headaches
• Relieving varicose veins
• Clearing pelvic congestion
• Improved lymphatic drainage
• Helping to aid digestion by boosting the pancreatic secretion of digestive hormones, the pancreas can become sluggish during pregnancy due to the effect of the placental hormones.
• Oxygenating the baby by improving the blood flow within the whole body, helping the uterus and the baby’s placenta.
• Helping to carry the baby to term
• Can be used to initiate labour if you are overdue, thereby reducing the need for medical induction at hospital
• Intensifying contractions during labour and shortening labour as a result
Reflexology and Labour
A study of 593 women giving birth at a Danish hospital found that 89.7% of those who chose reflexology with no anaelgesic drugs, felt it reduced pain, with only 4 of them requiring additional pain medication.(Easier Births Using Reflexology." by Gabriella Bering Liisberg, "Tidsskrift for Jordemodre," No. 3, 1989)
This study also showed that not only can it help reduce pain but it can also help bring about labour, often without the need for further intervention in about half the cases. And as if that wasn’t a good enough reason to try this extremely relaxing and calming therapy, a further study has also shown that it can reduce labour time by over 60%. The study conducted in London by Dr Gowri Motha showed that women having regular reflexology treatments had an average first stage labour of 5-6 hours, compared to textbook expectations of 16-24 hours. It also found that Stage 2 and 3 of labour combined was less than 25 mins for those having had reflexology, compared to more typical experiences of 1-2 hours.

Reiki
A beautiful gentle healing art. Rei meaning universal, Ki meaning energy. An ancient system of natural healing rediscovered in Japan. Reiki is offered not given and if drawn will flow however and wherever it is needed. During the treatment the practitioner places their hands gently on or just above the body. Reiki will be experienced by everyone in their own special way. Working on all levels, helping to support the natural healing process Reiki can provide a deep sense of well-being and wholeness.
Traditional Usui Reiki.
The word Reiki means ‘universal life force energy’. It refers to an ancient hands-on healing art that was rediscovered and revived in the middle of the 19th century by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan.
The word Reiki divides into two parts. The syllable ‘rei’ (rey) describes the universal aspect of this energy and ‘ki’ (kee) refers to the life force energy that flows through all living things.
Reiki is a simple, direct, and accessible form of hands on (or hands off) healing developed in Japan during the late 19th century - a method of using positive Universal Energy to enhance well being. Reiki clears energy blockages, brings increased awareness, peace, balance to the mind, body and spirit.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a traditional style of Japanese bodywork. Its is based on the same principles as Chinese medicine and involves stretching, joint rotations and manipulation, application of bodyweight, gentle holding and acu-point stimulation.
Shiatsu aims to improve the flow of energy called Qi (life force energy) within a series of channels called meridians. For many different reasons Qi can become blocked and produce symptoms of poor health on a physicals and emotional level. These symptoms can gradually improve as the quality and flow of Qi starts to change.
Shiatsu is deeply relaxing for both body and mind. It helps to establish a calmer nervous system which allows the bodies own natural healing mechanisms to start working.
Common conditions which have been helped by shiatsu:
Back pain
Headaches, migraines
Whiplash injuries and neck stiffness
Joint pain and reduced mobility
Menstrual problems
Asthmatic symptoms
Digestive problems
Sports injuries
Stress, tiredness and depression
The session usually takes place on a padded futon at floor level and the client stays fully clothed throughout the treatment.

Sports Injuries Rehabilitation
Sports Injury Rehabilitation
When a sports injury occurs the main aim is to get you back to your sport as quickly and as safely as possible. Sports Injury Rehabilitation takes into consideration your lifestyle, sport of choice and type of injury. This is a unique treatment designed specifically for the individual consisting of stretching techniques, exercise routines and massage techniques enabling you to remain active while the body recovers fully, resulting in a speedy return to your sport.
Sports Therapy
Sports Therapy
An active lifestyle depends on a healthy body. Sports Therapy is a form of massage that can maintain your body’s muscle tone and increase flexibility, reducing the risk of injury. It consists of advanced techniques that work deep into the muscle to release the tensions that regular exercise and challenging training routines can cause. It is recommended for those individuals who are serious about their sport (whether professional or not) and who want to maintain their full sporting ability.

Toyohari Acupuncture
Toyohari is a theoretically simple but technically sophisticated complete system of acupuncture. It is quite different from most other forms of acupuncture in that it uses a mroe delicate treatment method, placing great emphasis on the use of pulse diagnosis and palpation skills. Anyone can have Toyohari treatment for any complaint. It is classed as a root treatment and so it deals with the cause which then takes care of the effect. A Toyohari treatment is so subtle that it is a surprise how effective it can be. It is so gentle that even children like it.

Traditional Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing practised in China and other Eastern Countries for thousands of years. It will benefit a person's entire health and well being by regarding the physical body as intricately linked to emotional, mental and spiritual functioning. Inserting fine needles into the energy channels of the body enables the acupuncturist to stimulate the body's own healing response and restore natural balance. Acupuncture not only serves as a successful treatment method but also as an excellent preventative medicine.
