Therapists at The Exeter Natural Health Centre
Adelia Tisdall
I qualified in ‘Holistic Massage (ITEC) in London in 1990. I have since taken additional courses in ‘Advanced Massage’ and ‘sports Massage’ with the ‘West London School of Massage’. I also trained in ‘On-site Massage’ with Stressbusters, although I confess I haven’t used that particular routine very much. In 2006 I did the first level of training in ‘Reconnective Healing’ which is a powerful new form of spiritual healing.
I have also completed a Foundation in Core Process Psychotherapy and two years of training in Counselling (gestalt based). Although I don’t work as a counsellor as such, these skills are useful in any therapeutic relationship. Over the years I have been involved in much personal development work and the ‘focusing’ skills are probably the one thing which I have learned which I consider most useful and adaptable to bodywork.
I came to massage originally from a movement background, having studied Mime and Movement in London for 2 years. During this time I became very fascinated by the connection between mind and body and started having massage treatments myself in order to achieve, what was known in Mime circles, as the Body Neutral (basically a relaxed and natural body state). I found it so personally helpful that I carried on and did the training, and the rest is history... as they say.
I am fully insured and registered with The Complementary Therapist Association and a member of Embody. We are bound by a strict code of practice, details of which can be viewed by clicking on the link www.embodyforyou.com
HOW I WORK?
If you’re looking for a massage for the first time it can be quite confusing. There are a lot of different terms used and it’s hard to know what exactly they mean, or indeed if people even mean the same thing by them. My initial training was called “Holistic Massage” but in fact most basic massage courses are based on Swedish massage techniques. This simply means a series of specific movements for physical manipulation of soft tissue and includes strokes such as petrissage, effleurage and percussion. If a massage is described as an ‘Aromatherapy Massage’ it is likely to be rather superficial as the essential oils are being considered the therapy rather than the massage. The terms ‘therapeutic’, ‘remedial’ and ‘deep tissue’ are used to denote a deeper and firmer massage which aims to address particular physical problems or facilitate a deeper level of release. These may sometimes be synonymous with ‘Sports Massage’ although some Sports Massage therapists will also use other therapeutic treatments and suggest exercises to help strengthen muscles after injury, for example.
So where do I fit in to all this I hear you asking? Well, every massage is different because people are so different. Many people like a deep massage and others prefer something more gentle or nurturing, and this can also change depending on how you are feeling at a particular time. I can also work in a remedial way on specific problem areas. If appropriate I also include passive stretches and sometimes ‘isometric’ stretches (where you do some of the work!).
However I have discovered over many years that sometimes less is more, and that making a connection with the body is much more important than applying brute force. I believe that working on the edge of pain can be very beneficial, but going over the edge is counter-productive and simply produces resistance in the client's body (and mind). I prefer to gently encourage the body to give up its tension. However it is a dialogue with the body and everything is negotiable.
Each body is its own kind of puzzle, and the key is to find the particular input that this body needs in order to release its tension and achieve a profound level of relaxation. Sometimes this also means acknowledging that physical tension may represent unexpressed feelings or reflect an individual’s thought patterns, and although I would never push you, I will encourage you to work with the feeling level if you are interested.

Geoff Green
Geoff Green
Graduate of the School of Energy Healing (3 years, 2010), Reiki Master (2007)
Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling (2 years, Warwick University, 2005)
Member of British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), BSc Hons
Geoff is a Person-Centred counsellor and energy healer, and also a support worker to people with disabilities.
From an early age, Geoff felt a curiosity about the purpose and meaning of being alive on Earth. He first looked to conventional religion, and in his teens he found meditation, then encountered evidence of other realms and lives in witnessing such things as mediumship.
After receiving counselling support at University, to help work through challenging early life experiences, Geoff felt a strong desire to help others in this way. He qualified in Person-Centred Counselling in 2005 (after 3 years of training), and started looking at hands-on healing soon after, drawn to explore whether this would bring even deeper healing for himself and others.
Between 2007 and 2010, Geoff studied with The School of Energy Healing, founded by two graduates of Barbara Brennan's Healing School in America (author of ‘Hands of Light’ and ‘Light Emerging’). This brought an integration of his respect for everyone's inner wisdom, empathic counselling skills, and the power he'd witnessed in healing sessions with Reiki prior to this.
In healing and counselling sessions, Geoff brings a strong ability to be with others’ pain, a gentle yet strong presence. His own depth of self exploration and transformation supports him in being alongside others. He works at your pace, with a dedication to supporting you in unfolding.
Geoff takes his professional responsibilities seriously. He's connected with The School of Energy Healing (an organisation accredited by BCMA – the British Complimentary Medicine Association) and adheres to their strong ethical framework. For counselling, he is a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and works to their respected ethical framework. He receives regular supervision from very experienced practitioners to ensure his work with you is of the highest standard.
He welcomes any questions you may have before booking a session – please call (07734 364362) or email him (geoff@energyhealing.me.uk) or browse his website (www.energyhealing.me.uk).

Julia Collett
Julia Collett, Counsellor / Therapist
My name is Julia Collett. I live and work near Okehampton on the edge of Dartmoor, Devon. I also work at the Natural Health Centre in Exeter (www.enhc.org).
I have practised as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 25 years. I have a Diploma in Psychosyntheis (Psychosynthesis and Education Trust: www.psychosynthesis.edu) as well as a Diploma in Deep Memory Process(Woolger Training International). I trained in the 1980s with Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, which led me to co-found the first Children’s Cancer Help Centre in this country, now the Rainbow Centre in Bristol.
In 1989 I began to bring regression therapy into my work. I found that many difficult life issues could not be resolved without looking at the bigger picture, journeying into deep soul memories held through many life-times. The body remembers and has an extraordinary capacity to heal itself, to restore joy and wholeness. Working with past life memories can help resolve depression, anxiety, guilt, phobias, and many other inexplicable symptoms. I often find myself working with those who have been through intra-uterine or childhood trauma. There is no hypnosis involved – the body remembers.
I am also trained as a First Nature Voice Coach and may bring this into a session, for profound healing can come from restoring the true pathways of breath within the body.
For enquiries and appointments telephone me in South Zeal, Okehampton, on 01837 840052, or Exeter Natural Health Centre, 83/84 Queen Street, Exeter, 01392 422555.

Juliane Pecht
Juliane is a german national and has been resident in Devon for the last four years. She is a Reiki Master (2002) and Energy Healer (2003). In Hamburg Juliane has trained in Shiatsu for two years (1999/2000). She is a "Heilpraktiker" (german form of a naturopath) (2002) and has run a business as a "Heilpraktiker" from 2003-2006 in Lueneburg.
In 2010 she trained with Charles Virtue in London to be a Certified Angel Practitioner. Also in 2010 she studied at the Angel University with Doreen Virtue and is now a certified Past Life Healer.
An Angel Reading usually begins with a conversation focussing on any issues the client may wish to address. Juliane then tunes in with the angels and guides of the client and thus receives relevant information. A reading takes about 30 Minutes and can help with issues related to:
* jobs
* relationships/family
* decision-making
* moving house
* studies/training
Energy Healing is a gentle, yet effective method of healing and it may go a little deeper than the readings. During the sessions Juliane works on the physical, atomic and cellular level (PACE) of the client. She calls in three guides of light who then guide her to do the work. The treatments are hands-on as well as hands-off and take one hour.
Energy Healing may help with conditions such as:
* stress
* anxiety and depression
* anger and frustration
* taking the next step
* changing beliefs
* healing the past
* Burn Out
* Chronic Fatigue, ME
* eating disorders
* insomnia
* IBS, digestive problems
The gift Juliane brings in to her work is the ability to release things from the past that are no longer needed. The issues may stretch back to childhood or even further to previous incarnations. Clients report that they feel much lighter after a session and are able to move on to a more fulfilled life.

Lesley Harper
LESLEY HARPER
After graduating with an engineering degree in 1995 I spent the following ten years working in the manufacturing industry. Throughout this time my own health issues prompted me to explore alternatives to mainstream treatment options. It was here that my interest in nutritional therapy was ignited. I moved from Glasgow to Devon in order to complete my studies for the nutritional therapy diploma with the Kevala Centre; which later became the Natural Healthcare College.
I believe that sound nutrition is the foundation for optimum health. I also strongly believe that an integrated approach to healthcare is the most beneficial for the individual. In my role as a nutritional therapist, I aim to provide appropriate information and achievable recommendations in order for the individual to be able to make informed decisions about their own healthcare.
I am fully insured to practice nutritional therapy and I am a member of the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners.

Lisa Tate
Lisa has been working as an holistic therapist since 2004, with wide ranging clinical experience in the South West, offering therapies including massage, aromatherapy and reflexology.
A qualified solicitor, Lisa started her working life as a lawyer, but soon decided this was not the career for her. She wanted a job that allowed her to interact with people on a more personal level, and following her instincts, she retrained as a complementary health practitioner.
“I had always been interested in plants and natural remedies, even as a child, and this was the starting point for my new career. For me, this was absolutely the right decision. The job I do now gives me enormous satisfaction. I enjoy working closely with my clients, supporting them through times of stress, or pain, or giving them some space in their busy lives.”
Lisa gained her ITEC diploma in Anatomy and Physiology, followed by qualifications in massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. Then, relocating with her husband to North Devon, she gained a Diploma in Indian Head Massage and a Diploma in Massage during Pregnancy, Labour and Post Partum, in addition to qualifications in Ear Candling, Reiki.
One particular aspect of Lisa’s work that sets her apart from other therapists is her massage treatments for mothers-to-be. She has helped many women from the pre-conception stage, through pregnancy and the early post natal months. Her therapies work on several different levels, reducing the discomforts of pregnancy, supporting the woman’s emotional wellbeing, helping to ensure their labour goes smoothly, assisting their bodies in returning to normal after the birth and boosting their energy during the demanding early months with the new baby.
The most recent addition to Lisa's treatments is an anti-ageing and lifting face treatment or "Non Surgical Face Lift". This involves a facial using specially designed, organic aromatherapy products combined with a deep tissue and lymphatic drainage face massage.
“The thing I love about this job is that I am nurturing people, and making a difference to their lives. Therapeutic touch has such a healing power, not just by relieving aches, pains and physical discomforts, but also giving the person the time and space to just be, which can help stimulate the body’s own healing abilities.”
Lisa’s extensive practical experience has included working at the North Devon Hospice, where her massage therapy has been part of the palliative care treatments. Her massage sessions have also played a role in detox programmes at Yeotown Radiant Health Retreat near Barnstaple. Lisa has a growing number of private clients and is one of the practitioners based at the Exeter Natural Health Centre and Turning Point Clinic of Complementary Health in South Molton, North Devon.
Lisa Tate is registered with the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the Association of Physical and Natural Therapists. She is also a member of the British Complementary Medicine Association.

Louisa Shorney
Louisa qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist in 2003 and has further trained in psychotherapeutic techniques and energy healing. Louisa specialises in Positive Change Management and Self Alchemy (a transformational process of self-realisation).
Hypnotherapy is a very relaxing and calming therapy which helps to reframe and retrain the negative thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour that keep us in a seemingly endless repeating cycle. We all suffer from the human condition, conditioning, which can be both positive and negative. As creatures of habit it is so easy to become stuck in outdated, outworn, no longer positive and beneficial self beliefs. Hypnotherapy can help to highlight these negative patterns, remove them and instil healthier more positive and beneficial patterns, giving you the tools and resources necessary to continue this process for yourself, empowering you to be the person you want to be.
Louisa also offers Life Coaching to help you to find positive strategies to move your life forward. Giving you the ongoing support and encouragement necessary to maintain a positive and happy outlook.
Session prices:
Hypnotherapy £60 1 hr approx (book 3 in advance & get the 4th session free)

Marion Wallis
I Studied Shiatsu for 3 years at the British School of Shiatsu-Do in London, graduating in 2006.
For many years I worked in the NHS practising Clinical Diagnostic Microbiology. Pasteur, who discovered Penicillin, at the end of his life said ”the microbe is nothing, the terrain is everything”
I learned from my own bodily felt experience during various workshops, that much is held within the cells of the body and that our minds are connected to our bodies in ways that are not mentioned in biology or anatomy and physiology.
I had a series of Shiatsu sessions for stress and found it so relaxing and supportive and I wanted to learn more about touch and how it can activate the body’s own innate healing mechanisms.
I chose to study and practice shiatsu.
I believe that if we look after our body’s terrain we have the best chance to enjoy optimal health.
Observation of the body for life drawing and modelling from life, my own experience of dance, movement, singing and even clowning, theory of anatomy, and yoga and Chi gong which are activities I have done for many years in my spare time have all contributed to and fuelled my fascination for and knowledge of this amazing body.
I also practice in Buckfastleigh, Ashburton and Paignton and offer one hour Shiatsu which takes place on a futon, and seated Shiatsu. which takes place on a specially adapted chair and is especially suitable for the work place environment.

About me
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an experienced therapist. I have worked in general counselling and psychotherapy for the NHS, specialist addiction therapy and secure institutions.
This has included working with many issues including stress and anxiety, bereavement and loss, depression, fertility problems and miscarriage, post-natal depression and women's issues, redundancy and work related issues, relationship issues, trauma, eating disorders, obsessive thinking and behaviour, sexual identity, sexual problems, abuse, spirituality and addictions.
My approach
At times, we all feel stressed, anxious or upset. Its a natural part of our emotional range. But sometimes we get stuck in these feelings, and for some reason they become a frequent and unwelcome part of our lives. At these times, talking to a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist can help uncover the hidden links and patterns that are unbalancing us, and find ways to restore our happier state.
I can offer a safe and non-judgemental environment in which to explore your feelings.
The way I work is very much focused on you, with an emphasis on how you feel. I will encourage you to explore your feelings and emotions about situations you are experiencing now and those you have experienced in the past. I will not offer answers or advice but I hope to enable you to find your own way. You are under no obligation to talk about anything you don't want to.
Please visit my website www.counselling-exeter.co.uk or contact me on 07756 060557, email: natalie@counselling-exeter.co.uk to arrange a no-obligation first session.
I understand it can be difficult to pick up the phone to make that first call to speak to a counsellor. Please be assured that I will take your call seriously and in absolute confidence. I hope to set you at your ease when you call.
Fees
My fees are £40 per session.
Further Information
Each session is 50 minutes.
The therapy can last for a short period, agreed at the outset, or it can can be a long-term arrangement. I offer both options and this would be discussed in our first meeting.

My interest in complementary therapies began in my teens when I would make herbal concoctions for my family – which they discreetly emptied down the sink. This led to an interest in gardening and I trained in Landscape Studies and worked as a gardener and designer for many years.
After my first child was born my world changed again and the idea of rough, scratched, hard worked hands near her skin induced me to rethink what I would do when I went back to work. I had always been interested in massage and had picked up a leaflet advertising a local ITEC course which had been pinned to my notice board for about 2 years. After my son was born I enrolled on the ITEC massage course and have not stopped learning since.
Reflexology has changed my life, which is ironic as I was full of scepticism when I was training but the results I witnessed then and since have been astounding. I was contacted by a Midwife from Ivybridge and asked if I would be interested in attending a Maternity Reflexology Course. I was instantly interested in this area as I’d had two over-medicalised births. The training that I received on this course has already helped several women to have a more positive birth experience – ranging from relieving the discomfort of heartburn, relieving constipation to helping to re-establish a labour that had stopped after 12 hours of contractions.
Fertility and Maternity Reflexology are my specialist areas but I recently completed an ITEC Aromatherapy course to complement all the therapies that I do and to bring me full circle back to the plants that I love.
